Season One: Winter

When you’re first starting out, you may feel a bit overwhelmed by all that lies ahead of you. You may know what you need to do, but you might not know how to get started. A previous post that I wrote (The Formula) was written specifically for those wanting to know where to start. It has more practical advice for getting started. You may feel that the road ahead of you is long and dreary, but I want to tell you that it is such an exciting place to be! Anything is possible, you just have to begin.

During this time, thankfully, each change you make in your diet or exercise will have significant results, whether your goal is losing weight, improving health, or is fitness-related (like training for a race). This will be a time to experiment with changes in your diet, a time to learn to prepare foods that fuel your body well, and a time to try new things! It will be a time to discover how strong your body already is, to prepare workouts to increase that strength, and to delight in each muscle that “shows up” on your body!

This road is far from dull & dreary, because along the way, you will find out that you are strong. You may not enjoy exercise at this point, you may not feel confident that you can do it, or even think you have enough energy. But start with something, and be consistent. Find an activity that you enjoy. In time, I am confident that you will discover that you’ve got the energy to do a little more each time, and that you enjoy (even crave!) getting exercise. It may sound impossible, but so does the idea of spring in the middle of a dark, cold winter.
